You Are What You Love’ is not just a story, but a reflection of the painful yet transformative power of love and loss — and an imperative reminder of the millions of lives devastated by the opioid crisis.
Inspired by my personal experience, this screenplay serves as a tribute to the countless victims of the Purdue Pharma, a dynasty built on pain. As financial reparations from lawsuits begin to provide some relief, we must not forget the victims and their families who suffered immeasurably. Their stories, often shrouded in silence, are essential to remember so that such tragedies are never repeated.
This story centers around Leah, a young lesbian struggling with addiction amid a complex love triangle, and illustrates the profound truth that pain and love, the most basic feelings of the human experience, are fundamentally intertwined — one cannot exist without the other. For Leah, her healing journey starts because of the love she has for her partner yet, as her story progresses, she learns that love can also be the cause of life’s most excruciating pain. Her story reveals the dynamic intricacy between love, loss, and recovery and offers a raw, authentic glimpse into the struggles faced by so many.
This story is not merely a screenplay; it’s a resonant narrative that amplifies the millions of voices affected by the opioid crisis and how all of us are defined by the love we give and receive, even in our darkest moments. Leah’s story shows an enduring human spirit, striving to find light in the depths of despair.
