An emotional, character-driven screenplay
A young woman confronts the depths of opioid addiction as she works to rebuild her life and mend broken relationships. Moving through the recovery process as an LGBTQ individual, Kris encounters a system that does not always meet her where she is. Rather than turning away, she ultimately finds purpose working within that system, fighting to improve it from the inside and help others who face similar struggles.
Oliva-Castillo’s inspirational sapphic drama Worthy is based in part on her own experience with opioid addiction. Set in New York, the story follows Kris as she navigates recovery while managing complex relationships with her family and her partner, alongside the layered realities of the recovery system.
Drawing from lived experience, Oliva-Castillo brings a deeply personal and compassionate lens to the story. After growing up in New York, she became deeply engaged in recovery-focused work, dedicating herself to strengthening understanding, access, and pathways to care for individuals facing addiction. Worthy reflects both the challenges and the hope found along the journey toward healing, purpose, and meaningful change.
